Our research goal is to identify potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of obesity and its related diseases. Different from white adipose tissue storing energy in the form of lipid, brown and beige fat burn lipid and offers a new way to battle obesity and its related disorders. Our current work focuses on the key regulators of development and activation of beige and brown fat, especially beiging (browning) of white adipose tissue using in vivo, ex vivo, cell culture and in vitro approaches.
- Our research aims to characterize the role of intracellular signaling pathways such as mTOR complex 1 (mTORC1) in regulating thermogenesis and beiging of white adipose tissue in response to various stimuli.
- Our research also investigates the role of the adipocyte-derived factors such as adipokines in controlling beige fat development and driving the interaction between adipocytes and adipose-resident immune cells such as ILC2s and eosinophils.
